On April 18, 2023, Taiwan's Overseas Community Affairs Council (OCAC) organized a cultural workshop titled “Dragon Boat Festival Cultural Workshop: Mugwort Craft and Wellness Experience” in Manila, Philippines. The event attracted over 30 educators from various schools, aiming to enrich their teaching methods with traditional cultural insights. Center Director Eric Po-chih Chuang emphasized the importance of integrating cultural education into classrooms, stating that it helps deepen students' connections to their heritage. The workshop included lectures and interactive activities, focusing on the significance of mugwort (Artemisia) during the Dragon Boat Festival, a key celebration in Taiwanese culture. Guest instructor Huang Ting-Ting from Grace Christian College guided participants through the plant's historical and medicinal properties, culminating in a hands-on activity where teachers crafted their own “mugwort massage hammer.” Participants found the workshop informative and practical, enabling them to apply what they learned immediately in their classrooms. The initiative reflects OCAC's commitment to enhancing educational cooperation and cultural exchange between Taiwan and the Philippines.
