A recent survey conducted by LocalCircles revealed that 70% of parents with children in private schools reported a 30% or more increase in fees over the last three years. Among these, 33% faced even steeper hikes ranging from 50% to over 80%. The survey, which included responses from over 47,000 participants across 271 districts in India, indicates a significant gap between fee regulation policies and their enforcement. Parents expressed frustration over the ineffectiveness of state governments and district administrations in controlling these fee increases, with 90% stating that authorities have not adequately addressed the issue. Protests have emerged in cities such as Hyderabad, Delhi, Noida, and Dhanbad, where parents reported facing pressure tactics from schools, including threats of expulsion for non-payment. The survey also highlighted concerns regarding schools allegedly raising fees without prior approval and failing to comply with court directives. Experts suggest that without local government intervention to enforce transparency and adherence to fee regulations, court rulings may have limited impact.
