In a groundbreaking development for Jammu and Kashmir, a dedicated milk freight train has successfully transported 1,000 tonnes of Amul products from Gujarat. This initiative, which began on April 20, aims to enhance the reliability of dairy supply in the region by introducing a new rail route for essential food items. The train, equipped with refrigerated containers, departed from the Linch Goods Shed in Ahmedabad and made stops at Bari Brahman and Anantnag goods sheds, unloading 10 wagons at each location. The consignment included a variety of dairy products such as toned milk, milk powder, buttermilk, and lassi. Railway officials hailed this as a “historic achievement,” emphasizing its potential to improve food supply resilience and pricing stability in Jammu and Kashmir. By reducing reliance on road transport, which is often affected by adverse weather conditions, this initiative not only meets rising consumer demand but also fosters better integration of the region with national supply networks, paving the way for increased interstate trade.
