On Thursday, parts of New Delhi and the National Capital Region (NCR) experienced a welcome break from the intense heat as rain and hailstorms swept through the area. Accompanied by strong winds, the downpour affected regions including Ghaziabad and Noida. The India Meteorological Department (IMD) issued a yellow alert for Delhi, indicating light to moderate rainfall and thunderstorms, while an orange alert was issued for Noida and Ghaziabad, predicting heavier rain and thunderstorms. The weather change is attributed to a western disturbance linked to a cyclonic circulation over central Pakistan and nearby states. This shift in weather is expected to lower daytime temperatures significantly, offering temporary relief from the ongoing heatwave. In Rajasthan, light rain and drizzle also provided some respite, with Kota recording 20.6 mm of rainfall. However, experts caution that the changing weather may lead to dust storms, potentially worsening air quality even as temperatures decrease.
