Chandigarh is anticipating a fresh spell of rain this week, attributed to a western disturbance affecting the region, as reported by the India Meteorological Department (IMD). The IMD's Chandigarh director, Surender Paul, confirmed that the monsoon is expected to arrive by its normal onset date of June 26, provided current conditions persist. Last year, the monsoon made an early appearance on June 24, marking the earliest onset since 2021. Presently, the monsoon system has reached Tamil Nadu from the south and is advancing into northeastern states such as Nagaland and Assam. The IMD defines the onset of monsoon as the point when the system enters a region and produces continuous rainfall for at least two days. Additionally, another western disturbance is anticipated to impact Chandigarh around Thursday, bringing rain on Thursday and Friday, while dry weather is expected until then. The temperature has already increased, with maximums rising from 39°C to 39.9°C recently, and is projected to remain between 40°C and 41°C before the rain arrives.
