On Saturday, thousands of Albanians protested in Tirana and at the Vjosa-Narta lagoon against plans for a luxury beach resort linked to Ivanka Trump and Jared Kushner, estimated to cost around €4 billion. Activists and local residents, responding to environmental groups, gathered to voice their opposition, arguing that the project threatens the biodiversity of this protected area. Protesters chanted slogans such as "Cancel the project!" and displayed placards reading "Ivanka go home" and "Albania is not for sale." Concerns have been raised about the impact on migratory birds, including flamingos, in the lagoon, which is considered a biodiversity hotspot in the Mediterranean. Prime Minister Edi Rama downplayed the protests, stating the project has not yet been approved and involves top experts. Previous protests had erupted over construction activities, which have since ceased, reflecting the growing unrest regarding environmental issues and transparency in the development process.
