The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) achieved a remarkable victory in the recent assembly elections in Assam and West Bengal, winning 67 out of 84 Scheduled Castes (SC) and Scheduled Tribes (ST) reserved seats. In Assam, the BJP claimed five out of nine SC seats and swept all 18 ST seats, while its ally Asom Gana Parishad (AGP) secured three SC seats. The Congress party managed to win only one SC seat. The BJP's success in Assam reflects a significant consolidation of support among tribal and SC voters, aided by delimitation changes that increased the number of reserved constituencies. In West Bengal, the BJP's performance was even more striking, winning 51 out of 68 SC seats and all 16 ST seats, significantly diminishing the Trinamool Congress (TMC) to just 17 seats in these categories. This outcome signifies a decisive realignment in voter preferences among marginalized communities, positioning the BJP as a dominant force in these regions.
