The Nigerians in Diaspora Commission (NIDCOM) has initiated the profiling and documentation of Nigerians in South Africa for their voluntary return to Nigeria. This process is being conducted at the Nigerian Embassy in collaboration with South African officials, ensuring a smooth and dignified repatriation. President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has approved this initiative, reaffirming his commitment to the welfare of all Nigerians, both at home and abroad. The move comes amid growing concerns over xenophobic violence in South Africa, which has directly affected Nigerian nationals. Recently, two Nigerians were killed in such attacks, leading to heightened diplomatic tensions. The Nigerian Ministry of Foreign Affairs has taken steps to address these issues, including summoning South Africa’s Acting High Commissioner to discuss the treatment of Nigerian citizens and the potential impact on bilateral relations. This proactive approach by the Nigerian government aims to support its citizens facing challenges abroad and facilitate their safe return home.
