The announcement was made by the team on Saturday, with Blue Jays manager John Schneider expressing concerns that Berrios may also require significant ligament repair. Schneider indicated that the timeline for Berrios' return could extend beyond a couple of months, particularly if more extensive damage is discovered during the procedure. Berrios, who has not pitched this season, first encountered issues when the stress fracture was diagnosed via MRI prior to the World Baseball Classic. After making four rehab starts, he experienced elbow inflammation, which led to the decision for surgery. Last season, Berrios had a solid performance, finishing with a 9-5 record and a 4.17 earned run average (ERA) across 31 appearances. However, he ended the season on the injured list and was unable to contribute to the Blue Jays' postseason efforts during their World Series run.
