In a significant move to address energy conservation amid global tensions, Lucknow University in Uttar Pradesh, India, has announced the implementation of a five-day work week. This makes it the first state university in the region to adopt such a measure, following an advisory from Prime Minister Narendra Modi regarding energy and fuel conservation. To maintain academic productivity, the university will extend daily working hours by one hour, ensuring that classes and administrative functions remain effective despite the reduced number of working days. The university's registrar, Bhawana Mishra, confirmed that while routine administration and teaching will follow this new schedule, examinations will continue as previously planned. Vice Chancellor Prof. JP Saini highlighted that this initiative will lead to substantial savings in electricity, water, and transportation fuel, contributing positively to national interests. The university aims to proactively reduce its carbon footprint while ensuring that students' education remains uninterrupted.
