On Friday, the Supreme Court of India rejected the plea of Pawan Khera (Congress leader) to extend his transit anticipatory bail granted by the Telangana High Court. This bail was in relation to an FIR filed by the Assam Police, stemming from Khera's allegations that Riniki Sharma, the wife of Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma, holds multiple passports from different countries. The Supreme Court bench, comprising Justices JK Maheshwari and Atul S Chandurkar, declined to provide Khera with relief and also denied his request to extend the bail until next Tuesday, which would have allowed him to approach a court in Assam. The court advised that if the relevant court is not operational, Khera could request an urgent listing, which would be addressed according to established judicial practices.
