The Utah Department of Transportation (UDOT) has partnered with Brigham City to implement vehicle-to-everything (V2X) technology in the city's emergency vehicles, including ambulances and fire trucks. This innovative technology allows for the extension of green lights and the alteration of traffic signals from red to green specifically for emergency responders. The initiative aims to enhance safety and reduce the risk of accidents while first responders are en route to emergencies. This partnership was prompted by a previous incident where an ambulance was involved in a crash, injuring a paramedic and resulting in the vehicle being totaled. Brigham City Fire Chief Brandon Thueson highlighted the critical importance of quick response times in emergency situations, stating that seconds can be a matter of life and death. Jami Cottle, CEO of MountainStar Healthcare’s Brigham City Community Hospital, echoed this sentiment, noting that any improvement in response times can significantly affect patient outcomes. UDOT has previously implemented V2X technology in snowplows and plans to expand its use across more communities in Utah to enhance emergency response capabilities statewide.
