Several student-athletes from the Eastern Visayas delegation faced stomach issues during the Palarong Pambansa 2026 held in Prosperidad, Agusan del Sur, Philippines. On May 26, athletes from the Arnis, Volleyball, and Rhythmic Gymnastics teams reported symptoms including abdominal pain, vomiting, and diarrhea. They received prompt medical attention from the Regional Medical Team and physicians, with all responding well to treatment. No severe cases were noted, and the athletes were cleared to continue competing after showing improvement. Investigations by health officials indicated that the stomach issues may have stemmed from packed lunch meals consumed past their safe consumption period. In response, the delegation has enhanced food safety protocols and sanitation monitoring at billeting and competition venues. Water quality tests also confirmed no fecal contamination. The health and safety of all participants remain a top priority as the event continues, showcasing thousands of student-athletes from across the country.
