In Madison, Wisconsin, the local chapter of Students for Justice in Palestine (SJP) is set to host a series of political education events focused on the writings of Bassel al-Araj, a deceased Palestinian figure known for his controversial background. The event series, titled 'The Praxis of Resistance: Selected Writings of Bassel al-Araj,' will take place at the Central Madison Public Library every Saturday throughout June. Bassel al-Araj was killed in a gunfight with Israeli Defense Forces (IDF) in 2017 and was reportedly the head of a terrorist cell involved in planning attacks and procuring weapons. He had also faced arrests by the Palestinian Authority for his alleged involvement in planning attacks against Israelis. The SJP's announcement on social media emphasizes al-Araj's role as a 'Palestinian revolutionary and writer,' highlighting the group's intent to engage in discussions around his writings and their political implications. The Madison Public Library has not yet responded to inquiries regarding the events.
