On Friday morning, a fire safety drill was conducted at the Hindustan Times house building on Kasturba Gandhi Marg in New Delhi, in collaboration with the Delhi Fire Services (DFS). This drill is part of the annual Fire Services Week, commemorating the 1944 Victoria dock explosion in Mumbai. During the exercise, two fire tenders were deployed, and the fire alarm was triggered at approximately 11:00 am, leading to the evacuation of the building. DFS officials, including assistant divisional officer Bhupender Prakash and station officer Navneet Kadyan, demonstrated essential fire safety procedures. N.C. Gautam, general manager of fire and safety at the building, emphasized the importance of these drills for occupant preparedness. The officials explained the RACE plan, which stands for Rescue, Alarm, Contain, Evacuate, and Extinguish, and stressed that occupants are often the first responders in emergencies. Additionally, fire safety demonstrations were conducted at various locations, including schools and hotels in the region. The campaign will culminate in a Runathon on April 20, involving around 200 DFS personnel, aimed at promoting fire safety awareness and honoring firefighters' sacrifices.
