Former Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) batter Wasim Jaffer has called for Rohit Sharma to be reinstated as captain of the Mumbai Indians (MI) amid the team's disappointing performance in IPL 2026. With only one win from five matches, MI currently languishes in ninth place with just two points. During a discussion on his YouTube channel on April 18, Jaffer emphasized the need for MI to rethink their strategy, arguing that if Rohit is playing, he should lead the team given his successful history, including winning five IPL titles with the franchise. Jaffer recalled the pivotal moment in 2013 when Rohit took over the captaincy from Ricky Ponting and led MI to their first championship. He believes that reinstating Rohit could help regain the support of Mumbai fans. Additionally, Jaffer noted that such a move could also benefit current captain Hardik Pandya, allowing him to play more freely without the pressure of captaincy. Pandya has scored 81 runs in four innings with a strike rate of 158.82, but his bowling has seen an economy rate of 11.16.
