In Harsh Vihar, northeast Delhi, thirty-six families have finally received regular electricity connections after a wait of nearly eight years. The delay stemmed from the lack of land for an electric sub-station, which prevented the provision of power since around 2018 when new houses were built. Many residents had relied on temporary solutions, often paying neighbors for limited electricity from generators. The situation changed after Chief Minister Rekha Gupta addressed the issue during a public grievance hearing in December 2022. Following her directive, land for a transformer was secured, allowing the power distribution company to commence electrification work. Officials confirmed that the transformer is now installed, and the electricity network has been expanded. The process of installing meters for eligible families is ongoing, with most demand notes already issued. Gupta reassured residents that the government aims to provide essential services like electricity efficiently, ensuring no one has to wait years for basic necessities.
