Ethiopia has officially begun voting in its 7th General Election, marking a significant milestone in the country's democratic process. This election is notable for its scale, with 54,057,871 registered voters and 42 political parties competing for various positions. A total of 10,438 candidates represent these parties, alongside 80 individual candidates. The election's integrity is supported by the presence of over 250,000 observers from competing parties. Various domestic and international organizations are monitoring the election to ensure transparency and fairness. Among these, 55 domestic civic associations have deployed 1,562 observers across polling stations. Additionally, the African Union has sent a 59-member observation team, led by former Kenyan President Uhuru Kenyatta, while the Intergovernmental Authority on Development is also contributing with a 26-member team. This comprehensive monitoring effort aims to uphold the democratic process in Ethiopia as the nation embarks on this crucial electoral journey.
