On Friday, a group of 25 tourists was successfully rescued from Sunshine Peak in Gulmarg, Jammu and Kashmir, after their private shuttle helicopter malfunctioned. The tourists, including families and children, were left stranded at an altitude of 14,000 feet when the helicopter failed to return due to technical issues. With weather conditions worsening, the Baramulla district administration initiated a coordinated rescue operation. The army’s Chinar Warriors and local police worked together, deploying helicopters to navigate through poor visibility and challenging mountain winds. The mission, which lasted two-and-a-half hours, involved precision landings by three army helicopters to safely extract the tourists. By late evening, all were returned to the base at 8,500 feet in good health. Chief Minister Omar Abdullah commended the prompt and well-coordinated efforts and called for a review of safety protocols for private high-altitude flight services to prevent similar incidents in the future.
