In Kolathur, Chennai, water supply has been restored after a significant disruption lasting nearly six days due to a major pipeline burst near Puzhal. The incident, which occurred on May 19, affected the main pipeline that transports 300 million liters of treated drinking water daily from the Puzhal water treatment plant to various areas in north Chennai. Metrowater undertook emergency repairs on the 1,200mm diameter pipeline along GNT Road, which included replacing a damaged section with a new 25-foot pipe. During the repair period, residents faced challenges and relied on tanker supplies due to the uncertainty of piped water delivery. To alleviate the situation, Metrowater deployed extra tanker lorries and ensured that water supply continued to low-pressure areas and neighborhoods without pipeline connections. The repair work was completed late Sunday night, allowing for the gradual resumption of normal water distribution across the affected zones.
