The recent elections in West Bengal revealed significant trends related to the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of electoral rolls. The Trinamool Congress (TMC) won 13 out of 20 seats where the highest voter deletions occurred, while the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) secured six seats and the Indian National Congress (INC) one. In the 187 seats that experienced over 5,000 deletions, the BJP led or won in 119 of those, indicating a complex relationship between voter deletions and electoral outcomes. Notably, in 47 of these seats, the number of deleted voters surpassed the victory margins. The SIR, ordered by the Election Commission in June 2022, involved a comprehensive review of voter eligibility, with 27.16 lakh electors deleted from the rolls. The process included unprecedented judicial oversight, with appeals still pending for many affected voters. Results were declared for 293 seats, with repolling scheduled in Falta on May 21.
