Aamir Khan (renowned Bollywood actor) and Ashutosh Gowariker (acclaimed filmmaker) are reportedly reuniting for a new cricket-based emotional drama inspired by the life of legendary Indian cricketer Lala Amarnath. This project comes 25 years after their successful collaboration on Lagaan, which remains a landmark in Indian cinema. The new film is in the advanced scripting stage and is expected to start production in September 2026. Unlike Lagaan, which combined fictional storytelling with colonial-era sports drama, this film aims to delve into historical events surrounding India’s Partition in 1947 and will use cricket as a central theme. The script has undergone multiple readings, with contributions from filmmaker Rajkumar Hirani and writer Abhijat Joshi. Additionally, the production team is planning extensive workshops and detailed research sessions to ensure authenticity. Following this project, Aamir Khan is anticipated to take on several other films, including a sequel to the popular movie 3 Idiots.
