Luis Salazar, a construction worker from Florida, found a fanny pack filled with $30,000 in cash in a Wawa restroom on May 3. Rather than keeping the money, Salazar dedicated several days to locating the owner, who had unknowingly left it behind. The owner, a 24-year-old man, had sold his entire Pokémon collection for $30,023 to help pay for his sister's medical procedure. After realizing he had lost the money, he contacted local authorities for assistance. By May 7, Salazar and the owner met at the police station, where the owner was moved to tears upon receiving the fanny pack back with all the cash intact. Salazar humbly stated, “$30,000 is great, but it’s not mine to keep. I like to earn my money.” He declined offers of a reward, simply stating he did what he felt was right. The owner later gave the money to his sister, although he did not disclose the specifics of her medical needs.
