Tether, the issuer of the USDT stablecoin, has recently added $70 million in bitcoin to its reserves, raising its total holdings to 97,141 BTC, valued at approximately $7.16 billion. This acquisition is part of Tether's strategy introduced in 2023 to reinvest 15% of its operating profits into bitcoin. The company reported profits exceeding $10 billion for the year 2025, largely due to the growth of USDT and increased income from U.S. Treasury holdings. Tether's reserves primarily consist of cash-like assets, including significant exposure to U.S. government debt, and it also holds $17.4 billion in gold as part of its diversification strategy. With this latest purchase, Tether solidifies its position as one of the largest holders of bitcoin globally, second only to MicroStrategy if it were a public entity.
