Alkem Laboratories, based in Mumbai, has launched semaglutide in pre-filled syringes at a price of ₹350, marking a significant milestone as the first company in India to offer this single-use format. This new delivery method aims to enhance the accessibility and affordability of semaglutide for managing Type 2 diabetes mellitus and obesity, which are increasingly prevalent in India. The launch follows regulatory approval from the Drugs Controller General of India (DCGI) and is part of a phased rollout strategy that began earlier this year with the introduction of disposable and reusable injection pens. Alkem has also received approval for a multi-dose vial presentation, expected to be launched later. According to Vikas Gupta, CEO of Alkem, the introduction of various delivery mechanisms is a strategic response to the rising rates of metabolic disorders, providing healthcare providers and patients with diverse options to suit different medical needs and financial situations. This initiative reflects Alkem's commitment to improving patient care and treatment adherence through innovative product offerings.
