Political tensions in Jharkhand escalated as Babulal Marandi (Leader of Opposition from the BJP) called for a National Investigation Agency (NIA) probe into alleged police connections with fugitive gangster Prince Khan. Marandi's demand follows video statements from Khan, who claims a 'police-mafia nexus' exists in Dhanbad, the state's coal hub. He accused the police of turning administrative postings into 'extortion licences' and demanded the removal of Dhanbad Senior Superintendent of Police Prabhat Kumar due to alleged collusion with criminals. In response, Congress spokesperson Sonal Shanti criticized Marandi for amplifying gangster propaganda, suggesting he is acting as a gangster's public relations officer. She stated that the state government is already addressing the issue through law enforcement. Prince Khan, who fled India in 2021, is believed to be operating from Pakistan and is linked to serious crimes, including weapon smuggling. Amid these allegations, Dhanbad police have increased their efforts against Khan's gang, recently attaching properties and extraditing associates. The BJP argues that the situation indicates a significant governance failure, while the ruling coalition dismisses the controversy as a political stunt.
