Marine Rousseau, a 41-year-old sexologist, and her partner Marc Ballabriga, 55, have been arrested in Portugal for allegedly abandoning their two young children, aged three and five, in a forest. The incident occurred approximately 1,500 miles from their home in Colmar, France. Police located the couple at a cafe 48 hours after the children were found crying and alone on a rural road, nearly 125 miles from where they were left. The couple reportedly blindfolded the children for a hunting game before abandoning them. Rousseau and Ballabriga were detained and taken to a police station in Palmela, where they faced charges of domestic violence and child abandonment. In a bizarre turn of events, Rousseau sang opera in court while Ballabriga shouted declarations of love in French. The couple had been declared fugitives in France prior to their arrest, with the children’s father reporting them missing on May 11. Additionally, Rousseau is alleged to have left her 16-year-old child at home in France before embarking on the trip to Portugal. A judge is expected to decide on their remand to prison soon.
