The Lucknow bench of the Allahabad High Court has granted permission for a minor victim from Hardoi to undergo an abortion after she was abducted and subsequently became pregnant. The court's decision, made on June 4, directs King George’s Medical University (KGMU) to conduct the procedure at government expense. The minor, who is currently 21 weeks and two days pregnant, had her petition filed through her father. The court ordered the Hardoi chief medical officer to arrange for a government ambulance to transport the victim and her parents to KGMU’s Gandhi Memorial and Associated Hospital by 11 am on June 6. Additionally, the superintendent of police in Hardoi was instructed to provide a woman constable for the victim's safety during the procedure. A sample of the foetus will be collected for DNA testing, which is critical for the ongoing criminal case against the accused, who faces charges of abduction and illicit relations under the guise of marriage. The court has scheduled the next hearing for July 15, requiring a report on the proceedings from KGMU counsel.
