Delhi is experiencing warmer-than-usual nights, with the minimum temperature reaching 28.4°C on Tuesday, 4.6°C above normal and the highest recorded for April in nine years, according to the India Meteorological Department (IMD). The previous record was 29°C on April 22, 2017. However, daytime temperatures saw a decrease, dropping to 39.2°C due to overcast skies and isolated rainfall, a welcome change after several days of temperatures exceeding 40°C. The IMD has issued a yellow alert for Wednesday, predicting light rainfall and gusty winds, which are expected to offer some cooling relief. Despite this, Delhi's air quality deteriorated to the 'poor' category, with an Air Quality Index (AQI) reading of 239. The IMD anticipates maximum temperatures will hover between 39°C and 41°C in the coming days, with a second spell of rain expected around May 4 and 5. Lieutenant Governor Taranjit Singh Sandhu has urged agencies to adopt best practices to manage the extreme weather conditions.
