C Joseph Vijay, the chief of Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam (TVK), announced that his party will allocate the sole Rajya Sabha seat that is vacant in Tamil Nadu to its alliance partner, the Congress party. This vacancy arose after AIADMK leader C Ve Shanmugam resigned from the Rajya Sabha following his election victory in the Mailam Assembly constituency during the April 23 elections. Vijay emphasized that this allocation is part of the TVK-led alliance, with the Rajya Sabha election scheduled for June 18. This move is seen as a significant step towards maintaining unity within the alliance and strengthening ties with Congress. Senior Congress leaders, including former Union finance minister P Chidambaram, have been involved in discussions regarding this decision. Given the ruling TVK's numerical strength in the Tamil Nadu Assembly, Congress is anticipated to secure the seat comfortably, paving the way for another representative in the Rajya Sabha.
