The traffic diversion experiment near the Kamta tri-junction on Lucknow-Ayodhya Road, implemented on April 25, is causing significant disruptions at the Awadh bus station. The Uttar Pradesh State Road Transport Corporation (UPSRTC) reports that bus operations have plummeted from approximately 400 to 200 buses within 24 hours, while passenger numbers have fallen from nearly 7,000 to 3,000 daily. The changes, including barricading around the terminal and new traffic flow patterns, have made it challenging for passengers to access buses directly. Buses now take a longer route through the Vijayant Khand service lane, increasing the travel distance from 3.5 km to nearly 7 km, which has resulted in longer travel times and higher diesel expenses. Amarnath Sahay, the Lucknow regional manager of UPSRTC, stated that a detailed report addressing these issues will be submitted to the deputy commissioner of police (traffic), along with suggestions for redesigning the barricading to improve bus and passenger access.
