The registration of Prasad Hospital in Muzaffarpur, Bihar, has been cancelled following a tragic incident where six patients died from asphyxiation due to a fire that broke out in the Intensive Care Unit (ICU). The fire, attributed to a short circuit, filled the ICU with smoke, leading to five deaths on Thursday and a sixth patient succumbing to their condition at another facility on Friday. Reports indicate that hospital staff fled the scene, leaving patients unattended during the emergency. In response to the negligence displayed by the hospital management regarding safety standards, the Civil Surgeon of Muzaffarpur, Pramod Kumar, announced the immediate suspension of the hospital's registration. The management has been instructed to submit a comprehensive explanation along with necessary documentation within seven days. Additionally, three staff members have been arrested as part of the investigation into the incident. The Director General of Fire Services, Shobha Ahotkar, confirmed that all deceased patients died from asphyxiation, with no burn injuries recorded.
