Maggie Gyllenhaal has been named the President of the jury for the 83rd Venice International Film Festival, which will occur from September 2 to September 12, 2026. Gyllenhaal, who previously showcased her directorial debut, The Lost Daughter, at the festival in 2021, expressed her excitement about the role, stating her intention to foster curiosity and admiration rather than judgment. Festival director Alberto Barbera praised her for her consistent artistic journey. As jury president, Gyllenhaal will lead a panel that decides the winners of the main competition, including the prestigious Golden Lion. Last year's top prize was awarded to Jim Jarmusch's Father Mother Sister Brother. The festival's official lineup will be revealed in late July 2026.
