On Wednesday, the Indian government announced an increase in the minimum support price (MSP) for paddy by ₹72, setting it at ₹2,441 per quintal for the 2026-27 kharif marketing season. The Cabinet Committee on Economic Affairs, chaired by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, made this decision to ensure that farmers receive a price that is 50% above their production costs. The MSP for A-grade varieties has also been raised to ₹2,461 per quintal.
