Meghalaya has taken significant steps in its sporting journey by inaugurating the Integrated Multipurpose Indoor Hall at the J N Sports Complex in Shillong and signing the Host State Agreement for the 39th National Games scheduled for 2027. The hall, inaugurated by Union Minister of Youth Affairs & Sports Dr. Mansukh Mandaviya and Chief Minister Conrad K Sangma, represents a ₹132.9 crore investment and is designed to host Basketball and Kabaddi competitions. It will also feature a High-Performance Sports Science Centre to support athlete training. The National Games will see participation from over 10,000 athletes across Shillong, Tura, and Jowai, generating more than 5,400 jobs. This event not only marks Meghalaya's readiness to host a major sporting event but also celebrates its 55th Statehood anniversary, reinforcing the region's sporting legacy alongside Assam and Manipur. The dual celebration highlights the commitment to enhancing sports infrastructure and fostering a vibrant sporting culture in Meghalaya.
