A devastating collision on the A1 in Northumberland has resulted in the deaths of two individuals and left three others with serious injuries. The incident occurred shortly before 4am on Saturday at the Wandylaw junction, involving a silver Nissan Juke and a blue Vauxhall Corsa. Emergency services confirmed the fatalities of both drivers: a woman in her 50s from the Nissan and a man in his 40s from the Vauxhall. Two passengers from the Nissan, a woman in her 20s and a secondary-school-aged boy, along with a female passenger in her 20s from the Corsa, were taken to the hospital with serious injuries. The next of kin have been notified and are receiving support from specialist officers. The A1 was closed for about ten hours but has reopened. Sergeant Alex Partington from Northumbria Police expressed condolences to the victims' families and announced that an investigation is underway. The police are particularly interested in any dashcam footage or information from witnesses to help clarify the circumstances of the crash.
