Abedrabbo Mansour Hadi, who served as Yemen's president from 2012 to 2022, has passed away in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia, at the age of 78 due to a sudden health crisis. Hadi fled to Saudi Arabia in 2015 amid the ongoing civil war instigated by the Iran-backed Houthi rebels, who had ousted his government from the capital, Sanaa. In April 2022, he announced the transfer of his powers to the newly formed Presidential Leadership Council, led by Rashad al-Alimi, as Yemen entered a United Nations-brokered ceasefire. Hadi's political career began after he served as vice president under Ali Abdullah Saleh, who resigned during the Arab Spring protests. Despite his election victory in 2012, Hadi's presidency was marked by escalating conflict, leading to what the United Nations described as one of the worst humanitarian crises globally. Hadi, a military officer by training, was known for his discreet nature and authored several books on military strategy.
