As the Canadian federal government considers banning cryptocurrency ATMs to combat fraud, a new survey shows that 56% of Canadians support the ban. This includes 29% who strongly favor it, compared to 26% who oppose it. The Canadian Anti-Fraud Centre reported that Canadians lost $351 million to investment fraud in 2025, with many attributing this to the use of cryptocurrencies for scams. The poll also revealed that 49% of Canadians believe cryptocurrencies are used for money laundering, particularly in British Columbia and Ontario, where support is even higher at 58% and 55%, respectively. Interestingly, younger Canadians aged 18 to 34 are more likely to hold favorable views of cryptocurrencies, with 52% expressing a positive opinion, likely due to their higher self-reported knowledge of the topic. The survey was conducted online from May 12 to 14, 2025, among a representative sample of 1,002 adults, with a margin of error of ±3.1 percentage points.
