Faf du Plessis (former captain of South Africa's national cricket team), Jonty Rhodes, and Heinrich Klaasen have formed a consortium to purchase the Rotterdam franchise in the newly established European T20 Premier League (ETPL). The league, which will run from August 26 to September 20, will feature six teams across major European cities, including Amsterdam and Dublin. Du Plessis expressed excitement about his first venture into team ownership, highlighting the growing momentum of European cricket. The chief executive officer of the Dutch cricket association (KNCB), Huib van Walsem, praised the acquisition as a significant boost for cricket in the Netherlands, believing it will attract competitive talent. Other co-owners in the league include cricket legends such as Steve Waugh and Chris Gayle. The ETPL aims to replicate the success of franchise leagues like the Indian Premier League, which have shifted player focus towards shorter formats of the game.
