The Haryana government has initiated a comprehensive disaster preparedness exercise to strengthen emergency response mechanisms across all departments and districts. Financial Commissioner, Revenue & Disaster Management Department, Sumita Misra, has issued directives for the effective implementation of the Haryana State Disaster Response Manual, which aligns with the National Disaster Management Authority's guidelines. This framework aims to minimize loss of life and property by ensuring a quicker, coordinated response during disasters such as floods and industrial accidents. The Incident Response System (IRS), established under the Disaster Management Act of 2005, defines the roles and responsibilities of various stakeholders, enhancing inter-departmental coordination. Misra has directed 24 key departments, including Health, Police, and Agriculture, to ensure that designated officers are familiar with their responsibilities. Additionally, all 23 Deputy Commissioners have been tasked with conducting regular training programs and mock drills to maintain operational readiness. A significant mock exercise simulating a flood disaster is scheduled for May 14, 2026, across 13 flood-prone districts, including Gurugram and Faridabad.
