India's steel sector showed strong performance in April 2026, with crude steel production reaching 14.09 million tonnes, marking a 5.8% increase compared to April 2025. Finished steel production also rose to 13.05 million tonnes, reflecting a 3.4% year-on-year growth. Finished steel consumption was particularly robust, hitting 12.99 million tonnes, an 8.1% increase, driven by sustained demand in construction, infrastructure, and manufacturing sectors. Additionally, domestic steel prices recovered across all major product categories, with TMT/Rebar prices increasing by approximately 2.6% month-on-month and 3% year-on-year, while flat steel prices saw even sharper gains, with HR Coil up 6.3% and GP Sheet up 7.3% month-on-month. This growth in the steel sector is indicative of the healthy domestic demand and stable industrial activity in India.
