Former Texas Democratic state representative Wendy Davis criticized Paxton on social media, reminding followers of the pen incident. Paxton's wife filed for divorce last year, citing infidelity, and he faced accusations of having an affair during his impeachment trial in 2023, which ended in his acquittal. Despite his controversies, Paxton recently secured a victory in the GOP primary against incumbent Senator John Cornyn, with support from former President Donald Trump.
