The Lufthansa Group has expressed support for the Federal Republic of Germany's decision to abolish transit visa requirements for Indian citizens traveling to third countries through German airports, effective June 3, 2026. This policy, announced by the German Embassy in New Delhi, aims to simplify travel and enhance connectivity between India, Germany, and the global market. Currently, Lufthansa operates more than 70 weekly flights between India and Europe, showcasing its commitment to the Indian market for over 60 years. As part of its expansion plans, the Group will introduce Lufthansa's premium Allegris cabins on Boeing 787-9 services from Delhi and Hyderabad, and launch SWISS's first direct service from Bengaluru to Zurich in the 2026 Winter schedule. Additionally, Lufthansa and SWISS will increase capacity with additional flights between key cities. The new visa policy is expected to reinforce Germany's position as a major gateway for Indian travelers to Europe and beyond, further strengthening the air connectivity between these regions.
