In Surat, Gujarat, two booth-level officers (BLOs), Rakesh Sorathiya and Girish Chaudhary, initially refused to perform their election-related duties, leading to police intervention. With civic elections imminent, the returning officer had assigned BLOs the task of distributing ballot slips across ward nos. 1 to 30. While most officers complied, Sorathiya and Chaudhary did not attend a crucial meeting or follow further instructions. Following this negligence, a special officer in Surat contacted the Kamrej police, prompting them to issue warrants against the two officials. Fearing repercussions, both men reported to the election department office the next day and collected the necessary ballot slips for distribution. Kamrej police inspector R B Gojiya confirmed that action was initiated against the negligent officials as per the election department's directives.
