In a move to facilitate commuting for office-goers, West Bengal's Chief Electoral Officer, Manoj Agarwal, has partially relaxed motorcycle restrictions during the polling period for the 2026 assembly elections. From two days before polling and on polling day, individuals with valid identity cards will be allowed to use motorcycles, amid existing curbs aimed at ensuring free and fair elections. The order, issued to district election officers and police authorities, aims to maintain a peaceful atmosphere while addressing concerns over potential misuse of motorcycles for voter intimidation. The Kolkata Police have announced that no motorbike rallies will be permitted starting April 27, and restrictions will also apply to night-time motorcycle movement, with exceptions for medical emergencies.
