Hasim, a 22-year-old man from Khanpur village in Sitapur district, Uttar Pradesh, India, is currently imprisoned in Oman after falling victim to a visa fraud scheme. His family reported that he sought better job opportunities abroad to support them and paid ₹1.15 lakh (roughly $1,400 USD) to a local agent, Mohammad Zuber Ahmad Ansari, who promised legitimate employment. Upon arriving in Oman, Hasim initially found work at a small hotel but was soon detained during a routine inspection for lacking a valid employment visa. His mother, Noorjahan, expressed her anguish over trusting the wrong person and emphasized her desire to bring her son back home. An FIR has been lodged against the agent under the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), 2023, for cheating. Police are investigating the case, examining visa documents and financial transactions, and suspect a larger network of agents exploiting job seekers. The family's hopes for financial relief through Hasim's earnings have turned into uncertainty and debt.
