Wrestler Vinesh Phogat has publicly condemned Brij Bhushan Sharan Singh, the former president of the Wrestling Federation of India (WFI), revealing that she is one of the six women who filed sexual harassment complaints against him. Ahead of her return to competitive wrestling at the National Open Ranking Tournament from May 10-12, 2024, in Gonda, Uttar Pradesh, Phogat expressed deep concerns about her safety and mental pressure in competing on Singh's home turf. Phogat highlighted the challenges athletes face under such circumstances, stating, 'Imagine if I go to his house and to his college where every person would be related to him.' Despite assurances from WFI president Sanjay Singh regarding her safety, Phogat remains apprehensive about competing in an environment where she feels vulnerable. The tournament will mark her comeback after a long hiatus, during which she became a mother and was elected as a Member of the Legislative Assembly in Haryana. Phogat emphasized the need for transparency and accountability in sports, urging the media and sporting community to support her and bring the truth to light.
