On Wednesday, the Department of Empowerment of Persons with Disabilities in India announced a substantial increase in post-matric scholarship support for students with disabilities, marking the first enhancement in 12 years. The new structure provides residential students in degree, postgraduate, and diploma courses (Group 1) with ₹1,700 per month, up from ₹1,200, while non-residential students will receive ₹900, previously ₹550. For other professional courses (Group 2), residential students will now receive ₹1,200, an increase from ₹820, and non-residential students will get ₹850, up from ₹530. Additionally, the government has raised the reader allowance for visually impaired students to ₹300 per month from ₹100 for Groups 1, 2, and 3, and to ₹225 from ₹75 for Group 4. The annual study tour allowance has also been increased to ₹1,500, significantly enhancing financial support for these students.
