Margaret Theresa, born on July 12, 1651, was the daughter of King Philip IV of Spain and Queen Mariana of Austria, and became a notable figure in the Habsburg dynasty. Her birth was challenging for her young mother, and despite being adored by her father, the royal family faced numerous tragedies with the loss of infant siblings. By age 12, she was being considered for marriage to her uncle, Emperor Leopold I of the Holy Roman Empire, a union aimed at consolidating Habsburg power. Margaret Theresa married Leopold in 1666 at just 15 years old. Following her marriage, she was expected to bear heirs, resulting in seven pregnancies within a short span, of which only one daughter, Maria Antonia, survived to adulthood. The strain of repeated pregnancies severely impacted her health, leading to her untimely death at 21 years old in 1673, while she was pregnant with her seventh child.
