French President Emmanuel Macron has launched an ambitious electrification pact with around 200 companies to increase the share of domestically-produced electricity in France's energy mix from 30% to 60% by 2030. This initiative, part of a broader energy plan unveiled in February, is expected to create or sustain over 600,000 jobs. The government aims to reduce reliance on imported fossil fuels, particularly amid rising hydrocarbon prices due to geopolitical tensions. To support this transition, state backing will increase to €10 billion annually until 2030, focusing on nuclear and renewable energy sources. Major investments include Stellantis' commitment of over €1 billion for electric vehicle production and EDF's pledge of €240 million for various electrification projects. The pact also includes plans to double the number of electric vehicle charging stations and produce 1 million heat pumps by the end of the decade. However, some critics express concerns about the influence of fossil fuel lobbies on policy decisions.
